Contributing to agent chat

Studio is open source, and so is everything the agent is told. If you think the agent should work differently in Studio, you can change it.

The instructions and the four task guides are plain Markdown in src/agent-profile/:

• instructions.md: what every agent is told about working in Studio
• guides/: one file per task

To suggest a change:

1. Try it first. Edit the file in Studio's agent folder (see Where they're written) and use the agent with your version for a while. Restore Studio's version in Settings puts the original back.
2. Open a pull request against the file in src/agent-profile/. Say what the agent did before, what it does with your change, and which agent you tried it with.

Keep the text short and plain. Every line is sent to the agent with every chat, so a longer prompt costs everyone time and tokens. Name only tools that exist; Studio's tests check that every tool a guide mentions is real.

Please open an issue and include:

• which agent, and its version (codex --version or gemini --version, for example)
• your Studio version, from Settings → Updates
• what you asked, and what you expected the agent to do
• what it did instead: the relevant tool cards from the chat (a screenshot is fine), or the entries in the MCP tab's activity log
• whether Use Spec0 instructions was on, and whether you'd edited them

Check that what you paste has no secrets in it. Studio replaces secret values with their {{name}}, but a value you typed into a message yourself isn't one Studio knows about.
